British Standards (BS) are a set of standardized specifications and guidelines used to ensure the quality and safety of products, services, and systems in the United Kingdom. They are developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI), an independent, non-profit organization that operates as the UK's National Standards Body. The BS standards cover a wide range of industries, including construction, engineering, technology, and more. The goal of these standards is to promote safety, performance, and efficiency, and to provide a level of consistency and reliability across the UK. They are regularly reviewed and updated to keep up with changing technology and industry practices, and the use of BS standards is often mandatory for certain products and services. Conformity to these standards is indicated by the use of the Kitemark, a well-known quality assurance symbol in the UK.
