BS EN 55015:1996 is a European standard for "Limits and methods of measurement of radio disturbance characteristics of electrical lighting and similar equipment". The standard specifies the limits and methods of measurement for radio frequency (RF) disturbances caused by electrical lighting equipment and similar devices.
The standard applies to all types of lighting equipment, including incandescent, fluorescent, and LED lamps, as well as lighting control equipment, such as dimmers and ballasts. It provides guidance on how to measure the level of RF disturbances generated by these devices and sets limits for the level of emissions that are acceptable for each type of device.
The standard also includes requirements for the labeling and documentation of lighting equipment with regards to its RF emissions, to ensure that users are aware of any potential interference issues with other equipment.
BS EN 55015:1996 is important because RF disturbances generated by lighting equipment can interfere with the operation of other electronic devices, such as radios, televisions, and computer equipment. The standard helps to ensure that lighting equipment does not cause unacceptable levels of interference and promotes the compatibility of different electronic devices in the same environment.
