The web-based robot system results from a combination of the web technology and the robot control technology. In this project the development of mobile robot for web-based experiments will be discussed. This includes the two mobile robot constructions, the PIC16F877A as the mobile robot‟s brain, the Parallax Continuous Rotational servos, the infrared LED, infrared detector the phototransistor used in the experiments and the assembly language to write the program also included in this project. Two experiments will be discussed in this project, line follower and obstacle avoidance. The objective of this project is to provide students especially in the Mechatronic program to conduct laboratory experiment via the internet. Students do not need to come to the laboratory anymore to conduct experiments in the future. This will save time and provide more flexibility to the students as they do their experiment at the time they are free. For line follower experiment, 3 infrared LEDs and 3 phototransistors are used to track the black line on the floor and the mobile robot will follow the line. And for object avoidance there are 2 another infrared LEDs and 2 IR detectors built in front of the mobile robot. There are two PIC16F877A used for each mobile robot. One PIC is for handing any wrong or disorder movement of the mobile robot, another one is executing the students‟ program. Two rechargeable batteries are used; one is to supply power to servos only and another one supplies power for the PIC and others. Through these experiments, students are tested by their programming skill on assembly code, their knowledge about how to run the servo motor, infrared LED, phototransistor and IR detectors. Students will get the chance to learn about the PIC bootloader. The use of the wire to upload new program from students to the mobile robot limits the movement of the mobile robot. It can be solved by using wireless Tx/Rx module to replace the wire.
