Abstract BS 4504‑3.1:1989 specifies the design and dimensions for circular steel flanges intended for pipes, valves, and fittings that are classified by nominal pressure (PN) ratings. It applies to nominal pressures from PN 2.5 up to PN 40 and nominal sizes of DN 10 to DN 4000. The scope includes facings, bolt-hole patterns, dimensions and tolerances, threading, bolt sizes, marking requirements, and materials for both flange bodies and bolting components. It also provides pressure–temperature ratings based on flange material categories: ferritic, austenitic, and nickel steels.
