BS EN 60811-3-2:1995 is a European standard that specifies test methods for determining the resistance of insulated electrical and optical cables to external influences. The standard applies to cables with solid or stranded conductors, and with insulation and/or sheaths made of various materials, including thermoplastics, elastomers, and cross-linked materials. The standard covers a range of tests that can be used to evaluate the resistance of cables to various external influences, such as sunlight, ozone, and heat ageing. These tests include: Ageing in air oven test to determine the ability of the cable to withstand high temperatures over an extended period of time. Ozone resistance test to determine the ability of the cable to withstand the effects of ozone. Weathering test to determine the ability of the cable to withstand the effects of outdoor exposure to sunlight, rain, and temperature changes. Heat shock test to determine the ability of the cable to withstand sudden changes in temperature. The purpose of BS EN 60811-3-2:1995 is to ensure that cables used in various applications, such as power transmission and telecommunications, meet the necessary resistance requirements for their intended use. The standard provides guidelines for preparing test samples and conducting the tests, and also specifies the acceptance criteria for each test.
