BS EN 60811-2-1:1995 is a European standard that specifies test methods for determining the dimensions of insulated electrical and optical cables. The standard applies to cables with solid or stranded conductors, and with insulation and/or sheaths made of various materials, including thermoplastics, elastomers, and cross-linked materials. The standard covers a range of measurements that can be used to evaluate the physical dimensions of cables, such as diameter, thickness, and concentricity. These measurements include: Dimensional check to determine the overall diameter and thickness of the cable. Eccentricity test to determine the deviation of the cable insulation or sheath from its nominal position around the conductor. Conductor diameter test to determine the diameter of the conductor. Insulation thickness test to determine the thickness of the insulation layer around the conductor. Sheath thickness test to determine the thickness of the sheath layer around the insulation. The purpose of BS EN 60811-2-1:1995 is to ensure that cables used in various applications, such as power transmission and telecommunications, meet the necessary dimensional requirements for their intended use. The standard provides guidelines for preparing test samples and conducting the tests, and also specifies the acceptance criteria for each test.
