BS EN 31252:1996 is a European Standard for "Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components - Basic test and measurement procedures - Part 3-3: Examinations and measurements - Encircled angular flux (EAF) measurement method."
The standard defines the Encircled Angular Flux (EAF) measurement method for fiber optic components and interconnecting devices. The EAF method provides a more accurate way of measuring the output of optical sources, as it takes into account the actual launch conditions of the fiber.
The standard specifies the equipment and methods required for conducting EAF measurements, including the use of a calibrated mandrel to ensure that the fiber is launched into the device under test with a specific launch condition. It also provides guidelines for the interpretation of EAF measurement results.
BS EN 31252:1996 is intended for use by manufacturers and users of fiber optic components and interconnecting devices, as well as testing and calibration laboratories. It helps to ensure that EAF measurements are conducted consistently and accurately, which in turn improves the reliability and performance of fiber optic systems.
