Umat manusia telah mengawasi, menertawakan dan iri hati penerbangan selama ribuan tahun. Sifat biologi mekanisme sayap mengepak dipercayai menghasilkan daya angkat dan tujah tanpa sebarang enjin dan juga menunjukkan kecekapan aerodinamik yang tinggi berbanding sayap tetap. Ini diklasifikasikan sebagai aerodinamik yang tidak mantap dan disebabkan kerumitannya, ia adalah salah satu kawasan paling kurang maju dalam teknologi penerbangan dan aerodinamik. Makalah ini mempersembahkan metodologi unik untuk mereka bentuk dan membuat mekanisme sayap berukuran bersaiz penuh dan hasil kajian reka bentuk, fabrikasi dan proses pemasangan di atasnya. Objektif kerja adalah untuk merancang mekanisme yang meniru pergerakan ornithopter semula jadi dan memenuhi parameter yang ditetapkan; kekerapan menegak dan sudut mengepak. Motif berturut-turut kerja ini adalah untuk mengkaji pola pengedaran tekanan di sekitar sayap di dalam terowong angin. Reka bentuk model sayap ini diilhami secara biologi oleh sayap burung sebenar dan juga oleh karya sebelumnya dalam bidang ini seperti 'Smart Bird' oleh Festo Corporation. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mankind have watched, wondered and envy birds flight for thousands of years. The biological nature of flapping wing mechanisms are believed to produce lift and thrust without any engines and also shows high aerodynamic efficiency compared to fixed wings. This is classified as unsteady aerodynamics and due its complexity, it is one of the least developed areas in the aviation and aerodynamics technology. This paper presents the unique methodology of designing and fabricating a full sized flapping wing mechanism and the results of the design study, fabrication and assembly process on it. The objective of the work is to design a mechanism which mimics the flapping motion of a natural ornithopter and meet the parameters set; the flapping frequency and flapping angle. The consecutive motive of this work is to study the pressure distribution pattern around the wing in a wind tunnel. The design of the wing model is biologically inspired by real bird wings and also by previous works on this field such as the ‘Smart Bird’ by Festo Corporation.
