The standard defines general requirements and minimum performance criteria for high fidelity audio systems installed in vehicles
Key aspects of its scope include:
It sets minimum performance characteristics (e.g. signal-to-noise ratio, distortion, frequency response, crosstalk, etc.) applicable to high fidelity systems in the automotive environment.
NormSplash
It covers the general / system-level requirements (not specific subcomponents). It is a general requirements specification (i.e. the baseline for vehicle audio systems) rather than focusing on individual components (such as amplifiers, tuners, speakers) — those are addressed in the other parts of the BS 5942 series.
The standard is intended to apply to “high fidelity systems for use in vehicles (for example, motor cars).”
It refers to performance in the context of the vehicle environment (i.e. taking into account the constraints and conditions when audio equipment is used in vehicles)
