This British Standard specifies the dimensions and associated tolerances for metric spherical plain radial bearings of the joint type, belonging to dimension series E and G. It defines the boundary dimensions, bore diameters, outside diameters, widths, and spherical radii for these bearings to ensure interchangeability between manufacturers. The standard applies to metal-to-metal or composite-type spherical plain radial bearings designed primarily for oscillating or slow rotational motion under varying loads and alignment conditions. It does not cover performance characteristics, materials, or methods of manufacture, which are specified in other related parts of the BS 5983 series.
