BS 4667‑4:1989 defines the design, construction and performance requirements for two types of open‑circuit, compressed‑air escape breathing apparatus intended for emergency escape purposes at ambient pressure. TYPE 1is for use under hard work condition such as walking up flight of stairs and running. TYPE 2 is for use under less arduous conditions such as walking on the level, walking down flights of stairs and climbing a few stairs.
