This British Standard provides recommendations for the use of the Data Encryption Algorithm (DEA) in message authentication for secure electronic communications in banking and financial services. The standard aligns with and references the Data Encryption Standard (DES), originally developed by the U.S. National Bureau of Standards, and applies it specifically to the authentication of messages, rather than encryption for confidentiality.
