High speed imaging to determine the dynamics of balls

High speed imaging to determine the dynamics of balls / Chin Yee Seong
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This project proposed a dynamic model used to simulate the trajectory of moving table tennis ball in air. Differential equations which govern the motion of a projectile rotating about an arbitrary axis are discussed. These equations are solved as functions of time in order to simulate the trajectory of projectile using Matlab and Simulink. Then, an image processing algorithm used to track the trajectory of the moving table tennis ball in air from high speed video is presented in this project. Successive ball positions are used to measure the dynamics involved in the projectile such as maximum height, initial elevation angle and initial velocity. Finally, the simulation results and the image processing results are compared and discussed in this project. The errors of final position of the projectile motion between the image processing results and simulation results are within 0.0002 m to 0.0699 m. The errors of final velocity of the projectile motion between image processing results and simulation results are within 0.0048 ms-1 to 0.7749 ms-1.
