Masa merupakan aset yang paling berharga dalam hidup kita. Masa tidak dapat dikumpulkan,mahupun dihentikan. Justeru itu, penting untuk melabur masa kita dengan bijak dalam teknologi yang dapat memberi manfaat kepada segala umat manusia. Kehidupan manusia sekarang kian mencabar dan rumit. Semua orang menuntut lebih masa untuk menyelesaikan tugas-tugas mereka. Memperuntukkan sebahagian daripada masa mereka untuk menyemak kehadiran surat menjadi lebih sukar. Jadi sering-kala mereka tercicir atau terlambat surat-surat yang penting. Oleh itu, penting untuk menbina sebuah sistem pengesan surat. Sistem ini menjimatkan masa seseorang daripada menyemak peti surat yang kosong dengan adanya perkhidmatan perhubungan yang automatik. Sistem ini beroperasi dengan baik dalam bangunan bertingkat seperti pejabat atau pangsapuri. Tugas utama sistem ini adalah untuk memaklumkan kepada pemilk peti surat secara e-mel atau SMS apabila mengesan kehadiran surat. Pemilik hanya perlu mengambil surat tersebut selepas dia menerima e-mel atau SMS, maka ia mengelakkan kerja tambahan. Tesis ini mengkaji tentang pembangunaan dan pelaksanaan sistem pengesan surat. Setiap peti surat dilengkapi dengan sensor untuk mengesan kehadiran surat. Sebuah mikrokontroler pula digunakan untuk memantau status sensor dan berkomunikasi dengan sistem di komputer. Sistem komputer akan memproses data dan menghantar SMS/e-mel kepada pengguna tersebut. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Time is the most precious asset in our life. Time cannot be accumulated, nor can it be stopped. Therefore, it is important to invest our time wisely on technologies that can benefit mankind. Nowadays, our lives are getting much more challenging and complicated. Everyone demands for more time to finish their endless tasks. To allocate portion of time checking their pigeonhole (mailbox) for incoming letter become more difficult. Thus, sometimes someone might miss or some important letters that may lead to ineffectiveness. A solution to this problem is to develop a pigeonhole letter detector system. This system concentrates to reduce the time wasted on checking the letter/mail inside the mailbox and offers a better notification services to the pigeonhole’s (mailbox) owner. This system bests operate in building with various floors such as office or flat houses. The main task of the system is to inform the users using e-mail or SMS when there is a letter/mail inside their respective pigeonhole. Users only go to collect the letter from the pigeonhole after he or she received the informing email or SMS and thus avoiding extra work. This thesis presents the development and implementation of the pigeonhole letter detector system. Each pigeonhole is equipped with a sensor to detect the present of letter. A microcontroller is used to monitor the sensors status and to communicate with the computer system developed in VB.NET. The computer system will process the data and send notification in SMS/email to the user.
