L-shaped facility (corner) effects on evacuation behaviour during building egress

L-shaped facility (corner) effects on evacuation behaviour during building egress / Ali Khazrai Pandin Ali Udin
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This dissertation focuses on the effects of the L-shape facility (corner) in a building during an emergency evacuation. The study was conducted at the Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Awam (PPKA). The objective of this study was to determine the efficiency of the evacuation system of PPKA building and to estimate its egress time. At the same time, also to determine the repulsion effects (interaction repulsive force) between pedestrians during evacuation process. Simulation hypothetical evacuation scenarios at the corner in a building are carried out based on the different pedestrian density and different widths. Pedestrian density and width of the L-shaped facility (corner) is the main parameter in this study. Therefore, a total of eight simulations had been performed on the test domain. Crowd Behaviour Simulator for Disaster Evacuation (CBS-DE) with the addition of Human Behavior Simulator (HBS) plug-in tool is used to analyze the data collected. The results of the simulations are egress time and repulsion effects. The findings showed that the best width for L-shaped facility (corner) is Case 3; which is width 1 at 1.09 m and width 2 at 1.80 m. Similarly for the difference in the number of pedestrians the 70, 88, and 105 people, everything indicates that the repulsive force does not exceed the safe level of contact force.
