BS EN 60811-1-4:1995 is a European standard that specifies test methods for determining the resistance of insulated electrical and optical cables to fluids. The standard applies to cables with solid or stranded conductors, and with insulation and/or sheaths made of various materials, including thermoplastics, elastomers, and cross-linked materials. The standard covers a range of tests that can be used to evaluate the resistance of cables to different fluids, such as water, oil, and chemicals. These tests include: Immersion test to determine the ability of the cable to withstand immersion in water or other fluids for a specified period of time. Drip test to determine the ability of the cable to withstand the effects of dripping fluids. Resistance to oil test to determine the ability of the cable to resist the effects of oil. Resistance to chemicals test to determine the ability of the cable to resist the effects of various chemicals. The purpose of BS EN 60811-1-4:1995 is to ensure that cables used in various applications, such as power transmission and telecommunications, meet the necessary resistance requirements for their intended use. The standard provides guidelines for preparing test samples and conducting the tests, and also specifies the acceptance criteria for each test.
