Abstract BS EN 60811-1-2:1995 is a European standard that specifies test methods for determining the electrical properties of insulated electrical and optical cables. The standard applies to cables with solid or stranded conductors, and with insulation and/or sheaths made of various materials, including thermoplastics, elastomers, and cross-linked materials. The standard covers a range of electrical tests that can be used to evaluate the performance of cables under different conditions, such as high voltage, low voltage, and alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) conditions. These tests include: Measurement of insulation resistance and resistance of the conductor at room temperature Voltage tests to determine the insulation resistance and quality of the cable Tests to measure the capacitance and dielectric dissipation factor of the insulation Tests to measure the insulation resistance and capacitance of completed cables Tests to measure the longitudinal water penetration of completed cables. The purpose of BS EN 60811-1-2:1995 is to ensure that cables used in various applications, such as power transmission and telecommunications, meet the necessary electrical performance requirements for their intended use. The standard provides guidelines for preparing test samples and conducting the tests, and also specifies the acceptance criteria for each test.
