Kaca telah digunakan dalam bangunan selama berabad-abad. Sejak beberapa dekad yang lalu terdapat kecenderungan ke arah menggunakan kaca sebagai elemen menanggung beban. Dengan perkembangan tersebut, kaca mulai digunakan sebagai elemen pengisi bangunan, seperti dinding kaca, tangga kaca dan lantai kaca juga mulai dipakai pada zaman sekarang, walaupun anggapan masyarakat mengenai kaca masih tidak berubah. Kaca masih dianggap sebuah material yang mudah pecah. Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengkaji kekuatan panel kaca yang telah diapit dan panel kaca yang telah diboltkan yang dikenakan pembebanan pramuatan dan statik. Beban muktamad yang diperolehi semasa kaca pecah dibawah pembebanan pramuatan dan statik dibandingkan. Selain itu, corak kegagalan kaca juga dapat dikenali pasti melalui pemerhatian semasa ujian dijalankan. Melalui kajian ini, sistem kaca yang berlainan iaitu panel kaca yang dibolt dan panel kaca yang diapit menunjukkan keupayaan galas beban yang berbeza. Hal ini menunjukkan sistem kaca yang dipilih juga mempengaruhi kekuatan kaca tersebut. Satu siri ujian lenturan dijalankan untuk menentukan keupayaan galas beban. Semua ujian akan dijalankan dengan mengunakan kaedah ujian lenturan. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Glass has been used in building for centuries. Over the last decade there is a tendency to use glass as load bearing elements. With these developments, the glass began to be used as elements in the building, such as glass walls, glass stairs and glass floors also began to be used today, despite the public perception of the glass remains unchanged which glass is still considered a fragile material. The aim of this study was to investigate the strength of bolted and clamped under preload and static loadings. Ultimate breaking load of glass under preload and static loadings was compared. In addition, the failure pattern of glass was determined through observation during the test. Through this study, different glazing systems which are bolted glass panel and clamped glass panels show different load bearing capacity. This shows that the system selected also affects the strength of the glass. All testing was conducted using the three point bending test method.
