Influence of palm oil fuel ash on the properties of self-compacting concrete

Influence of palm oil fuel ash on the properties of self-compacting concrete / Muhammad Saiful Idris
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The influence of different type of Palm Oil Fuel Ash (POFA) as the partial cement replacement on the properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) has been investigate in this study. Three different types of POFA were used namely Ground POFA (G-POFA), Treated POFA (T-POFA) and Ultrafine POFA (U-POFA) to replace the amount cement that had been used. The replacement was 20, 40, and 60% from mass of concrete for each different type of POFA. The rheological properties of SCC and the compressive strength of the concrete were investigated. The rheological properties that were investigated include the filling ability, passing ability and the segregation resistance. The results show that the concrete mix with the replacement of UPOFA have better rheological properties when compared to the control mix and mix containing other type of POFA. The compressive strength of more than 45 MPa can be obtained when using the replacement of UPOFA. UPOFA provide better filling ability, passing ability and segregation resistance ability compare to other types of POFA that had been used and also contribute to higher compressive strength. This indicates that the inclusion of POFA in SCC can improve the rheological properties and also the strength compared to the ordinary Portland cement.
