Abstract BS EN 60617-8:1996 is a British Standard that specifies graphical symbols for diagrams used in electrotechnical diagrams. Specifically, it deals with graphical symbols for binary logic elements, such as AND gates, OR gates, and NOT gates. The standard provides a set of standardized graphical symbols for use in various types of diagrams, such as electrical, electronic, and pneumatic diagrams. These symbols are used to represent binary logic elements and their functions. The purpose of standardizing these symbols is to ensure that communication between different parties in the field of electrotechnology is consistent and clear. By using a common set of symbols, engineers and technicians can quickly and easily understand each other's diagrams and designs. BS EN 60617-8:1996 is just one part of the larger BS EN 60617 series, which covers graphical symbols for a wide range of electrotechnical applications. Other parts of the series deal with topics such as electrical power systems, telecommunications, and process control.
