BS EN 50016:1996 is a European Standard for "Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres - Increased safety 'e'".
This standard provides requirements for the design, construction, and testing of electrical apparatus that is intended for use in explosive gas atmospheres. The standard specifies the use of increased safety "e" protection techniques, which are designed to reduce the risk of ignition of explosive gases by electrical equipment.
The standard covers a range of topics related to the design and construction of electrical equipment for explosive gas atmospheres, including protection against the effects of internal and external faults, selection and marking of components, and testing requirements. The standard also provides guidance on the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in explosive gas atmospheres.
BS EN 50016:1996 is part of a series of standards developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to provide requirements for electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres. This standard was adopted by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) as a European Standard and has been widely adopted by manufacturers and regulatory bodies in Europe and other parts of the world.
