OFDM digunakan secara meluas sebagai modulasi piawai dalam sistem komunikasi berkelajuan tinggi tanpa wayar. OFDM digunakan dengan menukar aliran data yang berkelajuan tinggi kepada beberapa aliran data yang berkelajuan rendah selari. OFDM mempunyai banyak kelebihan berbanding dengan sistem modulasi yang mengandungi pembawa isyarat tunggal. Beberapa kelebihan ini adalah keteguhan kepada saluran frekuensi pemudaran, kadar bit yang tinggi semasa penghantaran isyarat serta kecekapan spectrum yang tinggi. Namun, OFDM juga mempunyai kelemahannya. Salah satu masalah utama adalah PAPR yang tinggi. Masalah ini boleh membawa peningkatan kerumitan dalam sistem. Beberapa kaedah telah dicadangkan bagi mengurangkan PAPR. Dalam projek ini, dua objektif dikenal pasti. Yang pertama adalah untuk membuat kajian tentang konsep asas transformasi kosinus diskret (DCT) dan pemetaan terpilih (SLM). Kemudian, objektif kedua adalah untuk melaksanakan kaedah DCT prapengekodan SLM. Oleh itu, projek ini membentangkan kaedah DCT prapengekodan SLM yang dilaksanakan untuk pengurangan PAPR dalam sistem OFDM. Projek ini mencapai objektif dalam empat peringkat, iaitu memahami konsep OFDM dan kaedah pengurangan PAPR, pelaksanaan algoritma, bahkan mencapai keputusan simulasi dan menganalisis keputusan simulasi. Keputusan simulasi menunjukkan pelaksanaan kaedah DCT prapengekodan SLM dapat mengurangkan PAPR kepada kira-kira 1.55dB untuk 512 sub- pembawa isyarat dan empat blok data terpilih di keratin kebarangkalian 10-3. Berdasarkan keputusan simulasi, apabila bilangan sub-pembawa isyarat bertambah, PAPR juga meningkat. Pengurangan PAPR juga dapat bertambah baik apabila bilangan blok data terpilih meningkat. Bilangan blok data terpilih juga perlu dipilih secara prihatin kerana ia boleh menjejaskan sistem kerumitan. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is widely used as a standard modulation for various high data rate wireless communication systems. It is worked by converting high data rate streams into a number of parallel low data rate streams. OFDM has many advantages over single carrier modulation systems. Some of these advantages are robustness to frequency fading channels, high transmission bit rate and high spectral efficiency. However, OFDM has its drawbacks. One of the main problems is high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR), which brings disadvantage likes an increased complexity of system. Several techniques have been proposed in order to reduce PAPR. In this project, two objectives are identified. The first objective is to study the basic concepts of Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and Selected Mapping (SLM). Then, the second objective is to implement DCT precoded SLM technique. Hence, this project presents DCT precoded SLM technique that is implemented to reduce PAPR of OFDM system. This project is progressed in four stages, which are understanding the concept of OFDM and PAPR reduction techniques, implementation of algorithm, obtaining simulation results and analysing the simulation results. Simulation results show that implementation of DCT precoded SLM technique can reduce PAPR to about 1.55dB for 512 subcarriers and four selective data blocks at clipping probability of 10-3. From the simulation results, as number of subcarriers increases, PAPR value also increases. The PAPR reduction effect is improved with the increasing number of selective data blocks.Besides, the number of selective data blocks should also be chosen carefully as it affects the computational complexity ofOFDM system.
