Gas ammonia adalah gas alkali yang sangat reaktif dan senang larut. Oleh itu, gas ini boleh membahayakan jika terhasil dalam kuantiti yang banyak. Gas ammonia perlu dirawat kerana ia memberi impak yang besar kepada alam sekitar. Hal ini boleh diselesaikan dengan merawat ammonia yang dikeluarkan oleh pihak kilang dengan menggunakan karbon yang diaktifkan. Dalam kajian ini, kaedah rawatan yang digunakan untuk menyingkirkan ammonia adalah karbon yang diaktifkan secara fizikal dan kimia dari RPMS. RPMS adalah produk sampingan daripada kilang ppembuatan kertas yang sesuai dijadikan sebagai penyerap berkos rendah kerana ia mengandungi kadar karbon yang tinggi. Keberkesanan karbon diaktifkan kapasiti penjerapan fizikal dan kimia karbon diaktifkan ini berdasarkan kesan nisbah impregnasi, suhu dan masa. Karbon diaktifkan karbon menggunakan KOH sebagai ejen pengaktifan. Untuk menentukan kapasiti penjerapan karbon diaktifkan, ujian nombor iodin telah dijalankan. Keadaan optimum untuk karbon diaktifkan kimia adalah 700 ° C, nisbah impregnasi 1.0 pada 60 minit. Sementara itu, keadaan optimum untuk karbon diaktifkan fizikal ialah 500 ° C pada 60 minit. Seterusnya ammonia penjerapan juga disiasat. Karbon diaktifkan karbon diaktifkan dan fizikal kedua-duanya mempunyai hasil yang agak sama untuk penghapusan ammonia kepekatan yang lebih rendah iaitu 45% hingga 50%. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ammonia gas is a highly reactive and soluble gas alkaline gas which can be hazardous if it is were to release to in large quantity. Ammonia gas should be treated as it brings tremendous impact on environment. This can be done by treating the by-product of the factory using activated carbon before releasing it to atmosphere. In this study, the treatment method used for ammonia removal is chemical and physical activated carbon from RPMS. RPMS is by-product from papermaking factory which is ideal to use as low-cost production adsorbent as it contains high carbon. The effectiveness of the physical and chemical activated carbon of adsorption capacity of this activated carbon are based on effect of impregnation ratio, temperature and time. The chemical activated carbon use KOH as activation agent. In order to determine the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon, iodine number test has been conducted. The optimum condition for chemical activated carbon is 700 °C, impregnation ratio of 1.0 at 60 minutes. Meanwhile, the optimum condition for physical activated carbon is 500 °C at 60 minutes. Next, the adsorption ammonia also was investigated. Chemical activated and physical activated carbon both have quite similar result for removal of lower concentration ammonia which is 50 ppm.
