_________________________________________________________________________________________ The purpose of this project is to produce a simple cooling system by using the solar power as the source. The system consists of solar cell, DC chopper and a blower. In this project, the main design is the development of DC chopper and the blower. The objective of the DC chopper is to step-down the supply voltage, 18V from the solar cell to the output voltage, 5V. The output voltage should be always fixed at 5V without affected by the changes of supply voltage. The power efficiency should be over 90%. The blower is designed by using Thermoelectric Cooler (TEC) for replacing the conventional air-con system. The objective of the blower is to reduce the temperature in the car. Buck regulator is used for the DC chopper design, consists of switching mode power supply using pulse-width-modulation (PWM) operation. Software SIMCAD 4.1 is used for the design and simulation. The modules which had been designed are tested in the power lab. As a result, the module of Buck regulator manage to step-down the supply voltage from 18V to 5V output voltage with power efficiency of 36.67%, whereas the module of blower can reduce the temperature of 0.9°C in 30 minutes. The simulation results of the switching is found to be agreeable with the experimental set-up at duty cycle range from k = 0.5 to k = 1.0. The closed-loop circuit of Buck regulator can provide an almost fixed dc output voltage and current with a variable input voltage of 6V to 20V.
