AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE DYNAMICS OF CONGESTION IN COMMUNICATION NETWORKS_AMIRULL-DIN BIN JAMALUD-DIN_E3_2008_875002487_00003068652_NI
A network is a set of devices (often referred as nodes) connected by communication links which are a communications pathway that transfer data between these devices. A node can be a computer, printer, or any other device capable of sending and/or receiving (depend on the transmission whether uni-direction, bi-direction or omni-direction) data generated by the other nodes on the network. In addition, the connection also has own type, which is point-to-point connection and multi-point (also called multidrop) connection. A point-to-point connection provides a dedicated link between two devices wherever a multipoint connection is one in which more than to specific devices share a single link. Hence, these various types and techniques on transmissions and connections let the congestion in data traffic occur. This congestion can be divided into two policies which are open loop policy and close loop policy. Open loop policy is a congestion mechanism that occurs before the data from source affecting the whole network, which stands by retransmission, window, acknowledgement, discard and admission. The close-loop policy is a mechanism that happens when the load transmitted through a network begins to exceed the packet-handling capacity limit of the network. Thus, Vensim® PLE simulation software is used to investigate and analyze all these congestion behaviors of connections and transmissions effects deeply. This simulation software is a powerful tool that can simulate and measure from designated communication link.
