Cfd numerical comparison between in-house code and commercialised software for euler equations / Mohamad Hafizul Fikri Mahizam
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ ANSYS is one example of the commercialise software that is widely used in engineering world for simulation purpose. ANSYS was developed to become multiphysics engineering simulation software and was founded in 1970. While the in-house code has been developed to simulate some test cases by using Entropy-Stable Residual Distribution (ESRD) scheme. All the grid generation part and numerical calculations are performed in the C++ code. Then, the output file is built in the Tecplot format for generating the contour plots and stream traces. The purpose of this research is to investigate the comparison of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical cost between in-house code and commercialized software for Euler equations. The study begins by collecting the data or result based on the two-dimensional (2D) cylinder test cases from the in-house code. As the objective of this study is to find out the comparison of computational cost, the time stamp code C++ been added into the in-house code. Then, the basic parameters also been changed to obey the ideal gas relation. Next, the same cylinder cases were created by using ANSYS Fluent software for simulation purpose. The grid generation for cylinder test cases in ANSYS Fluent were generated with almost identically with the in-house code. The final result obtained showed that ANSYS Fluent has lower computational cost compare to the in-house code. But it is noted that the ESRD scheme has the lowest computational cost compare to FV, Lax-Wendroff and Lax-Friedrichs scheme.
