Kajian ini telah dicadangkan untuk mengkaji perencatan kakisan aluminium dalam 1M HCl dengan menggunakan ekstrak daun Manihot esculenta (ubi kayu). Perencatan kakisan aluminium menggunakan ekstrak daun M. esculenta (ubi kayu) dalam 1M HCl dikaji dengan menggunakan analisis penurunan berat pada pelbagai kepekatan perencat, suhu dan masa perendaman. Penambahan ion halida kepada sistem perencatan juga diperkenalkan untuk mengenal pasti kesan sinergistik atau antagonistik terhadap kecekapan perencatan. Potensi ektraks daun M. esculenta untuk merencat kakisan telah dikaji berdasarkan kepekatan perencat pada skala 0.2g / L-1.0g / L, julat suhu 30-60 °C dan rentang masa perendaman 24-96 jam. Keadaan optimum bagi perencat diperoleh pada kepekatan 0.6 g/L pada 30 °C dalam masa 24 jam. Penambahan ion halida kepada sistem perencatan menunjukkan kesan sinergi dan meningkatkan kecekapan perencatan (kenaikan 13.5%). Parameter termodinamik dan kinetik (tenaga pengaktifan, entalpi pengaktifan dan entropi pengaktifan) telah dibincangkan. Penjerapan ektraks daun M. esculenta ke atas permukaan aluminium didapati mematuhi isotherm penjerapan Langmuir. Pencirian sampel melalui Inframerah (FTIR) dan spektrometri jisim-kromatografi Gas (GCMS) telah digunakan untuk menentukan kumpulan fungsian yang diserap pada permukaan aluminium dan kehadiran kompaun dalam ektraks daun M. esculenta. Hasil analisis FTIR menunjukkan daun M. esculenta mengandungi atom O dan N di dalam cincin aromatik kumpulan berfungsi dan memenuhi pertimbangan struktur umum perencat kakisan. Bagi analisis GCMS, kelas kehadiran kompaun dalam ektraks daun M. esculenta adalah alkohol alifatik, asid karboksilat, kompaun fenolik, asid lemak, metil linolenat dan alkohol diterpene asiklik yang membantu menghalang kakisan tersebut. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This study has been proposed in order to investigate the corrosion inhibition of aluminium in 1M HCl by using Manihot esculenta (cassava leaves) extract. Inhibition of aluminium corrosion using M. esculenta leaves extract in 1M HCl was investigated by using weight loss analysis at various concentrations of inhibitor, temperatures and immersion times. Addition of halide ion to the inhibited system was also introduced in order to identify the synergistic or antagonistic effect towards the inhibition efficiency. The potentiality of M. esculenta leaves extract to inhibit corrosion was studied based on concentration of inhibitors at range of 0.2g/L-1.0g/L, temperature range of 30°C-60 °C and immersion time range of 24-96 hour. The optimum conditions for the inhibition were obtained at 0.6g/L of inhibitor concentration at 30 °C in 24 hours. Addition of halide ions to the inhibited system showed synergistic effect and has increased the inhibition efficiency (13.5 % increment). Thermodynamics and kinetics parameters (activation energy, enthalpy of activation and entropy of activation) were calculated and discussed. The adsorption of M. esculenta leaves extract onto the aluminium surface was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Characterization of sample via Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) were introduced to determine the functional group absorbed on the aluminium surface and the compound presence in M. esculenta. FTIR analysis results show M. esculenta leaves extract contains O and N atoms in functional groups aromatic ring, which meets the general structural consideration of the corrosion inhibitor. For GCMS analysis results, the class of compound presence in M. esculenta leaves extract were aliphatic alcohol, carboxylic acid, phenolic compound, fatty acid, methyl linolenate and acyclic diterpene alcohol which help to inhibit the corrosion.
