Proses pempolimeran metil metakrilat (PMMA) merupakan satu tindak balas yang eksotermik dijalankan di dalam reaktor bec. Dalam pempolimeran berkumpulan, larian termal reaktif mungkin akan terjadi. Jadi, terdapat kesusahan dalam pengawalan tingkah laku sistem supaya produk adalah dalam kualiti yang baik dan bagus dalam setiap kumpulan. Dalam proses pempolimeran ini, suhu reaktor memainkan peranan yang penting kerana struktur molekul polimer termasuk berat molekul adalah sangat sensitif kepada keadaan operasi. Dalam kajian ini, kesan keadaan operasi kepada prestasi pengawalan reaktor pempolimeran telah dikaji dengan menggunakan simulasi. Model dinamik reaktor bec pempolimeran diselesaikan menggunakan kaedah Runge Kutta peringkat 4/5 (MATLAB ODE45) dan strategi pengawalan yang sesuai direkabentukkan. Pengawal Kontrol Logika Fuzzy telah direkabentukkan dan diimplementasikan di dalam kajian ini dan kemudiannya dibandingkan dengan Pengawal Kadaran Kamiran dan Bezaan (PID). Kedua-dua pengawal digunakan untuk mengesan profil suhu yang diingini untuk mendapat profil berat molekul dalam reaktor pempolimeran. Perbandingan prestasi antara Pengawal Kontrol Logika Fuzzy dan PID dalam pengesanan takat set juga dinilaikan. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) polymerization process is an exothermic reaction and it is carried out in a batch reactor. In batch polymerization, unexpected thermal reactive runaway may occur. Therefore, there is a difficulty in controlling the behaviour of the system in order to keep the product in good and fine quality in each batch job. In this polymerization process, the temperature of the reactor plays a crucial part because the molecular structure of the polymer including molecular weight is very sensitive to operating conditions. In this study, the effect of operating conditions on the performance of polymerization reactor control is investigated using simulation. The dynamic model of the batch polymerization reactor is solved using 4th/5th order Runge Kutta method (MATLAB ODE45) and suitable control strategies are designed. The effect of the reactor temperature to the PMMA molecular weight was also investigated. Fuzzy logic controller are designed and implemented to this study and subsequently compared with Proportional Integral & Derivative Control (PID). Both controllers are used to track the temperature profiles to get the desired molecular profile of the polymerization reactor. The performance comparisons between the fuzzy logic and PID controllers in set point tracking were also evaluated.
