Monitoring pollinated palm using live streaming video / Nurul Atiqah Jasrizal
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Malaysia is one of the world largest palm oil exporter. In order to produce a high quality palm oil, and maximum quantity oil palm produce, hand-controlled pollination process have been introduce. The hand-control pollination will required farmer to cover the female flower with poly-bag during pollination season. This process is done to avoid cross pollination done by the native pollinator, Thrips hawaiensis (Thysanoptera). Nowadays, farmer will be needed to climb up the oil palm which can be up to 20m to monitor the readiness of the flower to undergo pollination process. This process will expose farmer to dangerous situation. In this research, the poly-bag integration were process using edge detection method to monitor the flower condition, and make sure the poly bag condition are in good condition. The system involve camera, camera stand and personal computer. Using this system the farmer would only need to lift up the camera until reach the same height as the poly-bag and capture the image of poly-bag. The image obtain then will be use in the software that been develop to determine the poly-bag condition. The software are using GUI for user-friendly, that enable user to click on button available and the software will execute the image using edge detection method. It is a new monitoring system that will shorten the time taken to monitor the poly-bag condition and reduce the risk facing dangerous situation and poisonous animal
