Evaluation of geological condition ahead of the tunnel face using tunnel seismic prediction (tsp)_Ooi Chin Boon_A9_2012_ASY
_________________________________________________________________________________ The question about the risk and safety issue of tunneling project has always been raised from time to time. In order to have a safe and efficient tunnel construction, it is important to grasp the rock condition ahead of the tunnel face. A comprehensive prediction system had been developed using the seismic method The Tunnel Seismic Prediction (TSP) system utilize the properties of seismic wave propagation to grasp the rock trend. This seismic method had been advanced rapidly in term of data measurement speed, processed and interpreted time, result accuracy in the past decades. However, there are still questions on how accurate and efficient the system could be. The research is to investigate this system used to predict the rock and geological condition ahead of the tunnel face. This study takes place at the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Transfer Tunnel located in the central zone of Peninsular Malaysia. The TSP process took place before the excavation work of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). The TSP results generated are validated through the TBM driving data in real time of tunnel excavation and the geological findings after the excavation work.
