11 . General
ISO/IEC ISP 106 12 is applicable to interworking units concemed with operating in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) environment. It specifies a combination of OS1 base Standards that collectively provide a MAC relay function between LAN subnetworks. This part of ISOAEC ISP 106 12 is applicable to interworking units operating between Token Ring LAN subnetworks.
ISO/IEC ISP 106 12- 1 specifies the relay function and LAN subnetwork-independent requirements, ISO/IEC ISP 106 12-3 specifies the Token Ring LAN subnetwork-dependent requirements, and this part of ISO/IEC ISP 106 12 defines the Profile RD53.53.
12 . Position within the taxonomy
The taxonomy of OS1 profiles is defined in ISO/IEC TR 10000-2. This part of ISO/IEC ISP 10612 defines the Profile:
RD53.53 Relaying the MAC Service, using transparent bridging, between Token Ring LAN subnetworks.
13 . Scenario
Figure 1 illustrates the configuration of Systems to which this part of ISO/IEC ISP 10612 is applicable. The figure Shows two reference points, but an implementation of this Profile may include more attachments to Token Ring LAN subnetworks with a reference point corresponding to each.
