Design of an automated optical inspection machine / Low, Cheng Heng
Machine design has reached a new break through where virtual prototyping in the product development cycle is an additional advantage for companies who applied this approach. Through virtual prototyping, analysis and testing of the machine can be performed virtually instead of the yesterday’s method in product development cycle where actual physical prototype is used to be analyzed and tested. Through this new way of prototyping, time and costs in developing the machine can be significantly cut. In this project three software are used in sync to develop a virtual prototype model. These softwares are SolidWorks which is a CAD/CAM tool to design in a three dimensional environment, COSMOSMotion a SolidWorks add on which is a analysis tool to analyze motion models and last but not least LabView a graphical programming environment for measurement and automation. With these softwares, the capabilities of popular desktop computers can be fully utilized to virtually analyze and test the design of the machine. With these, greater confidence in the design can be established before the actual physical prototype is fabricated. Fewer iterations through a physical prototype will definitely get the product to the market faster and at a lower cost.
