AN AUTOMATED FINGERPRINT IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM (AFIS)_Ngan Beng Huat_E3_2008_875002723_NI
Each individual in this world has their own unique fingerprint. This is a proven fact by scientific experiments. Even twins may have different fingerprint. Therefore, the uniqueness of fingerprint can be utilized as a personal key to unlock something. And due to this, fingerprint recognition is now the most commonly used biometric identification. Before we can use the fingerprint as a biometric key, we must extract some features that lead to the uniqueness of a particular fingerprint, which is known as the minutiae. However, fingerprint images are rarely of perfect quality. The image may be corrupted by noises due to variations in skin, dirt, sweat and impression conditions. Thus, image enhancement techniques are employed prior to minutiae extraction in order to obtain a more reliable minutia coordinate. In this dissertation, I will discuss on the methodology and techniques for fingerprint image enhancement and minutiae extraction. The performances of this methodology are tested with a database consisting hundreds of fingerprint images. Finally, I will discuss on the result._ Setiap individu dalam dunia ini memiliki cap jari yang unik.
