This study addresses the performance of catalytic micro combustion using Pt/Al2O3
catalyst foam using LPG as fuel by obtaining the composition of flue gas and the wall
temperature of combustor using constant air to fuel ratio for all developed samples.
Platinum catalyst supported onto alumina catalyst foam is developed through
impregnation method and the presence of platinum catalyst is justified by characterizing
the developed catalysts using SEM and EDX. The developed catalysts have Pt catalyst
loading of 0.1 wt%, 0.2 wt%, 0.17 wt% and 0.07 wt%. Combustion process starts in
ambient room temperature produces low composition of SO2 and NOx and the flame
sustain over half an hour. From experimental data, Sample 2 shows the highest
efficiency of combustion with 67.15% at temperature of 261.7oC. Based on the analysis
of the samples tested, higher catalyst loading can provide higher combustion efficiency,
high heat release and lower emission of harmful gaseous.
