Penuaan campuran asfalt berlaku di negara-negara tropika seperti Malaysia. Dalam jangka hayat sebuah turapan asfalt, bitumen akan menjalani dua peringkat penuaan atau pengerasan. Yang pertama adalah penuaan jangka pendek, yang berlaku semasa campuran dan pembinaan. Kedua adalah pengerasan jangka panjang yang berlaku semasa turapan dalam perkhidmatan. Penuaan adalah satu fenomena fiziko-kimia yang kompleks yang mempengaruhi campuran sifat reologi menyebabkan kemerosotan prestasi campuran asfalt. Untuk meningkatkan prestasi turapan, pencirian campuran asfalt yang menyebabkan penuaan jangka pendek diperlukan. Ujian rayapan dinamik dan modulus berdaya tahan telah dijalankan untuk menentukan kesan-kesan penuaan jangka pendek pada asfalt semasa pengeluaran asfalt. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa penuaan akan meningkatkan kelikatan dan pengerasan campuran. Keputusan dari ujian juga menunjukkan peningkatan penuaan yang menyebabkan peningkatan dalam kekukuhan rayapan dan modulus berdaya tahan. Berdasarkan kekukuhan rayapan dan kadar terikan yang lebih tinggi, potensi aluran adalah lebih teruk pada suhu yang tinggi. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Rapid aging of asphalt mixtures take place in tropical countries such as Malaysia. In the life of an asphalt pavement, the bitumen undergoes two distinct aging or hardening stages. The first is short-term aging, which occurs during mix production and construction. Secondly, is long-term hardening, which occurs while the pavement is in service. Aging is a complex physico-chemical phenomenon that influences mixture rheological properties causing deterioration in asphalt mixture performance. To enhance pavement performance, characterisation of the asphalt mixture due to short term aging is required. Dynamic creep and resilient modulus tests were carried out to determine the effects of short term aging on asphalt during asphalt production. The results showed that the aging increases the viscosity and hardening of the mixture. The results also showed that increasing aging duration increased the creep stiffness and resilient modulus. From the creep stiffness and higher strain rate, rutting was more severe at high temperatures.
