Design of a transformer temperature monitoring and control system_Tiong Ling Ing_E3_2013_NI
___________________________________________________________________________________ Transformers are one of the most critical assets in power distribution industry. It is important to keep the transformer temperature low in order to improve both the performance and efficiency of the transformer. The objective of this project is to design a microcontroller system to monitor and control the transformer temperature. The AVR Butterfly microcontroller board is used as the main controller of the monitoring system. Two temperature sensors, LM35 and Pt100 are used to measure the temperature of transformer. The temperature data can be transferred to a personal computer for continuous monitoring and recording. Cooling by ventilation is achieved by fans when the temperature reaches certain critical levels, while the power supply is cut-off when it is beyond the maximum permissible temperature limit. Analysis and evaluation of the complete system showed that this low cost and reliable microcontroller based monitoring system is able to monitor the transformer temperature and protect it from overheating.
