Bilangan kemalangan jalan raya di Malaysia adalah sangat tinggi dan meningkat setiap tahun. Ini kerana tindakan untuk menyelesaikan masalah kemalangan jalan raya seringkali diambil selepas kemalangan itu berlaku. Bagi mencegah masalah ini berterusan, pencegahan kemalangan boleh dilakukan dengan mengenalpasti lokasi yang mempunyai kebarangkalian kemalangan melalui kaedah pemetaan kognitif. Kajian ini memberi tumpuan kepada penunggang motosikal yang bekerja di Pulau Pinang sebagai responden. Pengumpulan data melalui soal selidik dilakukan bagi mendapatkan maklumat seperti demografik penunggang dan persepsi berisiko penunggang motosikal terhadap kemalangan jalan raya. Analisis spatial dilakukan dengan menggunakan perisian Global Information System (ArcGIS) manakala analisis statistik menggunakan Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS). Hasil daripada kajian ini membuktikan bahawa kaedah pemetaan kognitif boleh membantu memberikan maklumat berkaitan persepsi kemalangan penunggang motosikal di jalan raya. Kebanyakan penunggang motosikal di dalam kajian ini menyatakan sikap yang merupakan faktor mempengaruhi kemalangan jalan raya. Hasil daripada pemetaan kognitif menunjukkan sejumlah 202 lokasi di Pulau Pinang sebagai berisiko dari segi persekitaran jalan raya, 52 lokasi berisiko disebabkan sikap penunggang sendiri dan 95 lokasi yang bersiko disebabkan oleh sikap pengguna jalan raya yang lain. Analisis daripada ujian statistik pula menunjukkan faktor-faktor seperti kapasiti enjin motosikal, pengalaman terlibat dalam kemalangan jalan raya dan kebarangkalian untuk terlibat dalam kemalangan jalan raya memberi impak terhadap persepsi risiko penunggang motosikal di dalam kajian ini. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The number of road accidents occurring in Malaysia is very high and is increasing annually. This is due to the lack of oversight to mitigate the problem of accidents occurrence before it could happen on the road. This study aims to aid in providing solutions before the occurrence of road accidents where the location that has a probability of road accident needs are identified through cognitive mapping method. This study was focused on motorcyclists who worked in Penang. The data collection through questionnaire was about the characteristic of motorcyclists and their risk perception towards road accidents. The spatial analysis was performed by using Global Information System (ArcGIS) and statistical analysis was performed by using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS). The results of this study proved that the method of cognitive mapping could help provide information on the accident perception of motorcyclists on the road. Most motorcyclists in this study expressed that attitude is a factor influencing road accidents. From result of cognitive mapping, it shows a 202 risky locations in Penang in terms of road environment, 52 locations due to the attitude of the motorcyclists and 95 locations caused by the attitude of other road users. Statistical test analysis showed that factors such as engine capacity of the motorcycle, experience involved in road accidents and the probability to be involved in road accidents have an impact on the risk perception motorcyclists in this study.
