Speed control of a single phase induction motor using variable frequency_Koay Thean Siang_E3_2006_NI
______________________________________________________________________________________ The objective of this project is to design a single-phase inverter to control the speed of single-phase induction motor. The speed of the induction motor can be controlled by changing the frequency of the input supply. The function of an inverter is to change a direct current (DC) input to a symmetric alternating current (AC) output voltage of desired magnitude and frequency. A computer simulation tool called PSIM is used to simulate and examine whether the inverter circuit is a working circuit. The results of the simulation are same as expected. The inverter is constructed with four power MOSFETs and the MOSFET will only conduct when it receives a certain voltage at the gate. In this project, the pulse width modulation (PWM) controller board is used to generate continuous pulses for driving the MOSFETs. The frequency of the output pulses can be changed by varying the value of the potentiometer in the board. The output voltage of the inverter is connected to a transformer to step up to a suitable voltage that can run the motor. The output waveforms of the inverter that has been constructed are almost the same with the simulation result
