Tesis ini mengkaji kesan penggunaan sejenis tikar sisa tayar baru (8R-Mat) sebagai pengkuatan kepada daya dukung, deformasi dan kestabilan untuk sebuah tapak yang membina di atas tebing sungai. Beberapa keadaan termasuk kes tanpa pengkuatan dianalisis dengan menukar parameter seperti kecerunan tebing sungai, bilangan lapisan 8R-Mat, kepanjangan 8R-Mat dan paras air sungai dengan menggunakan Plaxis. Keputusan akan dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif untuk menentukan hubungan antara daya dukung, deformasi and kestabilan dengan parameter. Keputusan menunjukan daya dukung dan deformasi tapak dapat diperbaikan dengan menggunakan 8R-Mat sebagai pengkuatan di teping sungai dan kadar peningkatan bergantung kepada sudut cerun tebing sungai. Kadar peningkatan daya dukung dan deformasi juga bergantung kepada konfigurasi 8R-Mat di dalam cerun tebing sungai. Kenaikan paras air sungai mengurangkan daya dukung dan kestabilan tetapi meningkatkan deformasi tapak. Penggunaan 8R-Mat di tebing sungai tidak meningkat kestabilan cerun tebing sungai. ___________________________________________________________________________________ This thesis present the effect of a new invention of scrap tyre mat (8R-Mat) inclusion on the bearing capacity, settlement and stability of a rigid strip footing constructed on a riverbank slope. A broad series of conditions, including unreinforced cases, was analyzed by varying parameters such as angle of slope, number of 8R-Mat layers, length of 8R-Mat and water level of river using Plaxis. The result were then analyzed to find both qualitative and quatitative relationships between the bearing capacity, settlement and stability with the parameters. The results show that the bearing capacity and settlement of rigid strip footing can be intensively improved by the inclusion of 8R-Mat in the ground, and the magnitude of bearing capacity and settlement depend greatly on the angle of slope. It is also shown that the bearing capacity and settlement of the rigid footing can be considerably improved depend on the configuration in the ground. Increase of water level generally reduce the bearing capacity and safety factor but increase settlement of the rigid footing. Improvement of safety factor of the riverbank is considered negligible with the inclusion of 8R-Mat in the slope.
