This British Standard provides recommendations for design, workmanship and quality assurance
requirements for the installation of fibre optic cabling used to provide a communications path
between two or more points. This British Standard covers the use of glass and silica based optical fibres designed for transmission of electromagnetic radiation in the near-infra-red region between 750 nm and 1600 nm.
Optical fibre may be installed using either conventional cables or `blown fibre' techniques.
Unless otherwise stated the requirements for conventional cable designs are applicable to blown fibre ducts throughout the cabling design and installation process.
