Dalam kajian ini, analisis COD dan pembuangan logam berat dijalankan dengan menggunakan kaedah penjerapan tanah. Pencirian fiziko-kimia tanah dijalankan dengan menggunakan perbagai kaedah seperti ‘scanning electron microscopy’ (SEM), ‘X-ray fluorescence’ (XRF) dan ‘mastersizer’. Kajian penyerapan kelompok ini dijalankan untuk menentukan pelbagai faktor yang menyingkirkan COD dan pembuangan logam berat dengan menggunakan tanah sebagai bahan penjerap. Tanah yang digunakan diperolehi dari dua tempat yang berbeza, iaitu Dengkil dan Kuala Kangsar. Air sisa sintetik digunakan bagi menentukan penjerapan logam berat dan air sungai dari Sungai Kerian digunakan untuk menentukan penjerapan COD. Kajian penyerapan kelompok ini dilakukan untuk memeriksa pengaruhan beberapa parameter seperti kepekatan logam berat awal, masa tindak balas dan kadar dos penjerap ke atas penyingkiran. Masa pergolakan optimum terhadap logam berat yang berlainan adalah berbeza. Dari tapak Dengkil, keadaan optimum peratusan kecekapan penyingkiran untuk mangan, besi dan tembaga adalah 47.4%, 85% dan 86% untuk 5mg / L logam berat. Sementara itu, tanah dari tapak Kuala Kangsar menpunyai keadaan optimum peratusan kecekapan penyingkiran untuk mangan, besi dan tembaga adalah 21%, 82.2% dan 72.6%. Bagi COD, keadaan optimum peratusan kecekapan penyingkiran dari tapak Dengkil dan Kuala Kangsar adalah 0.98% dan 1.26%. Lalu, kecekapan penyingkiran besi logam berat dan tembaga adalah lebih baik lebih baik berbanding dengan kecekapan penyingkiran mangan logam berat dan COD. Dalam kajian isoterma, data keseimbangan eksperimental telah dianalisis, keputusan menunjukkan bahawa analisis menggunakan garis sesuhu Freundlich adalah lebih sesuai jika dibandingkan dengan garis sesuhu Langmuir. Manakala bagi kajian kinetik, Hukum Pseudo Kadar Kedua dapat ditentukan. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The present work involves the study of COD and heavy adsorption onto natural soil. The physico-chemical characterization of the adsorbents was carried out using standard methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray fluorescence (XRF) and mastersizer. Batch experiments were carried out to determine the effect of various factors for the removal of COD and heavy metal using the natural soil as adsorbent. The natural adsorbent was obtained from two different sites, which are Dengkil and Kuala Kangsar. Synthetic wastewater will be used to determine the adsorption of heavy metal and river water from Sungai Kerian will be used to determine the adsorption of COD. The influence of initial concentration, contact time and adsorbent dosage on adsorption process for the removal of heavy metal was studied. The optimum agitation times against different heavy metal are different. From Dengkil site, the optimum removal efficiency percentage for Manganese, Iron and Copper are respectively as 47.4%, 85% and 86% for 5mg/L of heavy metal. Meanwhile from Kuala Kangsar site, the optimum removal efficiency percentage for Manganese, Iron and Copper are respectively as 21%, 82.2% and 72.6%. Well for COD the optimum removal efficiency percentage from Dengkil and Kuala Kangsar are respectively as 0.98% and 1.26%. Thru, the removal efficiency of heavy metal iron and copper are much well better compared to the removal efficiency of heavy metal manganese and COD. In the isotherm studies, the experimental equilibrium data has been analyzed using the linearized forms of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The Freundlich isotherm was found to provide the best theoretical correlation in most of the experimental data. However, in kinetic studies, the parameters of Pseudo-Second order kinetics have been determined.
