______________________________________________________________________________________ The Electrocardiogram (ECG) system is a medical device that used to monitor the heart condition by checking the electrical activity of the heart. The objectives of designing the Electrocardiogram (ECG) acquisition system are to automatically acquire the 12 leads of ECG signal and to develop a filter to filter out the high frequency noise that can distort the ECG signal. The circuit design is divided into two stages; the first stage is the hardware part of ECG acquisition circuit and the second stage is the software part. The hardware part is designing an electronic circuit that is able to acquire 12 leads of ECG signal and getting the ECG signal automatically is developed in software part. There are several electrode combinations between left arm, right arm, left leg, V1, V2, V3, V4, V5 and V6 for the input of the instrumentation amplifier to produce the standard 12 leads of ECG signal. The analog switches that have been controlled by microprocessor will choose the right input signal before fed it into the instrumentation amplifier. The instrumentation amplifier is set to have a gain of 10 that is able to amplify the ECG signal since the ECG signals of the patient simulator is very small (0.1mV to 5mV). Besides, a right leg driven circuit is also added in the design that helps in improving the Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR) of the instrumentation amplifier. The ECG signals that are obtained by the instrumentation amplifier came along with high frequency noise and 50 Hz power line interference. The problem dealing with the noises can be solved by designing a Butterworth low pass filter that can attenuate higher frequency signal that plagued together with the ECG signal. The developed hardware is able to successfully acquire the 12 leads of ECG signals.
