Development of an intelligent system for dc current detection and classification of underground cables based on variation of magnetic flux density and distance measurement / Amirul Fahmi Fadzin
sistem bekalan kuasa terpaksa dimatikan sewaktu berlakunya gangguan operasi

A lot of researches have been done to improve the method and technology of
detecting and measuring the current for underground transmission lines cables. The most
popular current sensing methods nowadays are by using current transformers or current
shunts but unfortunately, these methods have several drawbacks. The main problem
arises here is the system need to be isolated or completely turned off for maintenance
works if there are any fault condition to the current measurement device. These
inefficiencies lead to a waste of manpower, energy and cost involved. The objective of
this project is to develop a detection system for a DC current of underground cables
based on the variation of the magnetic flux density produced by the current-carrying
conductors. In this project, the training and testing data are generated using Biot Savart’s
Law. Multilayered Perceptron network with three different algorithms which are
Resilient Back-propagation (BP), Bayesian Regularization (BR), and Levenberg
Marquardt (LM) algorithms are developed and compared to find the best performance
training algorithm. This study proves that MLP network with LM training algorithm
achieve the best performance as compared to the BP and BR algorithms with 94.58%
accuracy. Hence, an intelligent system is developed for the classification of DC current
for underground cables. The design of the hardware is also included which is the use of
the linear ratiometric Hall effect sensor for the sensor circuit. The sensor circuit is build
on the ware board and it proves that the current can be detected over the variation of
magnetic field induced by the conductor by applying the sensor in the slotted toroid. The
proposed system provides several advantages in term of high accuracies, user-friendly
system as well as it offers an alternative way of DC current detection.
