Autonomous car based on gps navigation system and digital compass / Nor Rirdzuwan Bin Nor Azman
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ There are various types of autonomous navigation system, one of the popular use today is a navigation system based on GPS satellites navigation. In this project, the navigation system based on the GPS is built on a "toy car" as a system prototype or prototype vehicle. It uses a GPS receiver module to receive the GPS data in order to determine its current position on the Earth such as latitude and longitude coordinates. The data then will be processed using a software algorithm from Arduino microcontroller. The algorithm will apply the Haversine formula to compute the distance between its current location to a target destination. Thus, the system will know whether it has reached within a range of target destination radius or not. The algorithm also will compute in which direction it should make a turn while heading to the target destination. This corrective operation is done by a digital compass module, which is attached on the vehicle platform. The mission of this project is to navigate the vehicle autonomously based on the GPS navigation system to pass through all target waypoints pre-defined by the user. Usually, this kind of system is used to be in a dangerous place, as a reconnaissance vehicle or for military purpose use. Overall, this project uses VPN1513 GPS Receiver Module, HMC6352 Compass Module, Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller and The Freescale Cup Car's platform, which attached together with the Servo motor, Motor Driver and DC motors.
