Communication system for non-verbal and non-mobile disabled children using arduino board / Ngu Ing Khai
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Non-verbal disabled children are children who cannot talk while non-mobile disabled children are those who cannot move about. However, most of them have the capability to learn when taught simple movements. However, their needs must always be attended for. Problems may arise when parents are busy and often not around with the children for face to face communication. Thus, it is beneficial to have a device which can help these children to communicate with their parents at any time, particularly to express their basic needs such as drink and food. In this project, a communication device suitable for disabled children use is designed using Arduino Mega 2560. The design has different buttons for the disabled children to press based on their needs. These children will be taught to use the device by their parents or local community instructors. For example, if a disabled child is thirsty but his parents are not around with him, he can simply hit the button corresponding to a picture of water. Hence, signal will be transmitted to a receiver to light up an LED, to display a message on a LCD screen and to trigger tones. This way, parents can easily notice the needs of the disabled child as long as they are within indoor house area.
