Computer aided programme for rockfall analysis using lumped mass method

Computer aided programme for rockfall analysis using lumped mass method / Ahmad Sulaiman Mohamad
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Rockfall is a nature phenomenon and one of the most common geomorphic processes in mountain regions that happen in most country in the world. Rockfall is a type of landslides, where unsupported rock masses get detached from the cliff face and fall freely under the influence of gravity. Most of the rockfall analysis commonly performed using lumped mass method which is taking into account the mass of the rock. The coefficient of restitution is the important parameters that is needed to know in order to perform the rockfall analysis and it was initially defined in rigid body mechanics to represent the amount of energy loss during rigid body collision, and adapted to rock mechanics to calculate the velocity of bounce in rockfall. Besides that, other parameters needed as input in this computer aided programme are geometry of the slope, acceleration of gravity, friction angle and mass of the rock. The output of this computer aided programme is to predict the velocity of the rock before and after impact, final location of the rock, rock trajectory, bounce-height and kinetic energy of the rock for the design of remedial work. Some of the examples of case study from previous research have been taken to analyse using this computer aided programme. The case study is at Al-Noor Mountain, Makkah, Mingyang village, China, Afyon Castle, Turkey and Sorrento Peninsula, Italy. All of the parameters from this study have been taken as an example to analyse the rockfall using this computer aided programme. In addition, this computer aided programme has been created by using Microsoft Excel to analyse the rockfall events and all computers regardless high or low performance can apply this computer aided programme without problem.
