Biosynthesis of silver particles using citrus microcarpa peel’s extract / Kalaivani Rangasamy
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ This review presents an overview of silver nanoparticles preparation by green synthesis approaches that have advantages over conventional methods involving chemical agents associated with environmental toxicity. Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using plant extract has gaining great interest lately, mainly due to their tremendous availability and various array of reducing metabolites. This study emphasizes on biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using C. Microcapa peel’s extract as reducing and stabilizing agents. Aqueous silver ions, Ag+ when exposed to peel extract were reduced to silver metal, Ag and resulted in a colour change from colourless to brown indicating the formation of silver nanoparticles. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis Spectroscopy, Surface Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS). The UV-vis spectrum of sample containing synthesized silver showed a gradual increase of surface plasmon resonance with a maximum peak intensity around 450 nm. A few parameters such as peel extract concentration, volume ratio of peel extract to concentration of silver nitrate, silver nitrate concentration, and the incubation time have been studied and showed the same range of wavelength at maximum absorption. The highest absorbance which is 1.42 was obtained after 72 hours using 5 wt% peel extract that has reacted with 8 mM silver nitrate solution in ratio of 1:5. The hydrodynamic size distribution was analyzed using DLS which gives an average Z-diameter value of 235 nm.
