Sejak kebelakangan ini, kajian harmonik dalam sistem kuasa menjadi semakin penting. Ini kerana penggunaan peralatan yang menghasilkan arus harmonik semakin meluas. Beban yang menghasilkan harmonik biasanya terdiri daripada peralatan yang mengandungi komponen-komponen elektronik kuasa, dan peralatan arka elektrik. Harmonik yang dihasilkan akan menjejas kualiti kuasa dan juga membawa pelbagai implikasi kepada kestabilan sistem kuasa. Dalam projek ini, kajian terhadap harmonik dijalankan di Bengkel Kimpalan, Pusat Pengajiaan Kejuruteraan Mekanik, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Dalam Bengkel tersebut, terdapat beban kimpalan elektrik yang merupakan sumber harmonik utama. Jadi, kajian dijalankan untuk meningkatkan kualiti kuasa disamping memastikan kestabilan sistem kuasa di loji tersebut. Kaedahnya termasuklah pengukuran harmonik di lokasi kajian, analisis harmonik dan merekabentuk penuras untuk mengurangkan herotan harmonik. Penuras yang dicadangkan bukan sahaja untuk mengurangkan herotan harmonik tetapi ia juga dapat meningkatkan faktor kuasa sistem. Dalam laporan ini, teori-teori tentang harmonik dan faktor kuasa telah dibincangkan dan teknik analitikal untuk memperbaiki faktor kuasa dan mengurangkan herotan harmonik dipersembahkan. Setelah penuras harmonik yang dicadangkan dipasang pada sistem kuasa Bengkel Kimpalan, dijangka herotan harmonik seluruh (THDi) maksimum akan dikurangkan dari 19.38% ke 12.41%, manakala purata faktor kuasa anjakan akan mencapai 0.90. Teknik yang digunakan dalam projek ini boleh dijadikan rujukan untuk meningkatkan kualiti kuasa pada sistem-sistem kuasa lain yang seiras. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Recently, harmonic study in power system received added significance. This is because devices which generate harmonics current are increasing in power system. Harmonics sources are such as power electronic devices and electric arcing devices. The harmonics generated will affect power quality and power system stability. In this project, study of harmonics were carried out at Welding Workshop in School of Mechanical Engineering, University Science Malaysia. There are electric arc welding machines which are the main harmonic sources in the studied location. This study was carried out to improve the power quality of power system and ensure the stability of the system in the plant. The study include harmonic field measurement, harmonic analysis, and filter design work to reduce harmonic distortion. The filter designed is not only used to reduce harmonics current, but also used to improve power factor of the system. In this report, theories of harmonics and power factor was discussed and analytical technique used to correct power factor was presented. It is expected that the improvement of harmonic distortion after installation of proposed filter is from 19.38% to 12.41%, whereas the displacement power factor will achieve 0.90. The technique used in this project can be a reference for improving power quality in other similar plant.
