BS EN 60825-2:1995 is a European standard that specifies safety requirements for laser products. The standard applies to all laser products, including those used in research, medical, industrial, and commercial applications.
The standard specifies the maximum permissible exposure (MPE) levels for laser radiation, which are determined based on the wavelength and duration of the laser pulse. It also provides guidelines for the classification of lasers based on their potential hazard to the eye and skin.
BS EN 60825-2:1995 requires laser products to be labeled with a warning label that indicates the laser classification and the MPE levels. The standard also specifies requirements for laser interlocks, which are safety features that prevent the laser from operating when certain conditions are not met, such as when a protective enclosure is open.
The purpose of BS EN 60825-2:1995 is to ensure the safe use of laser products and to minimize the risk of injury to individuals who come into contact with laser radiation. The standard provides guidelines for manufacturers and users of laser products to help them comply with safety requirements and reduce the risk of accidents or injuries.
