Performance improvement of single–phase induction motor for ceiling fan application_Ooi Chung Yang_E3_2014_NI
___________________________________________________________________________________ Ceiling fan is a cooling device that suspended from the ceiling of a room. Due to its price and performance, the demands on the ceiling fan are very high in market especially in domestic housing and commercial area. However, the existing ceiling fan does not have enough rotating speed, which means it is unable to cool the area at faster rate. In order to overcome the problem, the pole number of the induction motor must be reduced. The existing induction motor used in the ceiling fan has 18 poles number, thus 16 poles and 14 poles induction motors are needed with the intention of to increase the rotational speed. At the same time, the performance of the motors should be improved. The motors are designed by using the finite element analysis based on the existing induction motor. The main design focus in only on the stator, thus the motors are using the same rotor. As a result, by reducing the pole number of the inductor motor, the performance of the motor is improved. However, the 16 poles motor is not suitable to be used in ceiling fan as it creates a lot of vibration when operating. Thus, 14 poles motor is the best option in improving the performance of the ceiling fan.
